Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has been impressed with crowd attendance early on in the 2019/20 season and has given his opinion on how clubs can keep fans excited about the local game.
Crowd attendance has been an issue for the Premier Soccer League for many seasons, but Mosimane feels they can keep attracting more supporters by selling their prodcut through entertaining football.
Sundowns supporters have done well to attend their matches and stay on after the games to sing with players, in victory or defeat. They have had good attendance for their Champions League matches too.
“What makes a product to be wanted? The product must be good, it must be a product that you can sell and market. So our job is to make sure that our product, which is Sundowns Football Club, to be that product that people should want. If you don’t play well, people won’t come. You know South Africans, people won’t come,” Mosimane says.
“Especially the Sundowns supporters. They don’t just want to win, they want to win good. So my job is to make sure the product is right and that we can sell and market it. If that is right, I think the stadiums will get there. I’m also saying to the people doing marketing at Sundowns, this is an international product, so we need to do more to sell this product.”
