Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has opened up on the signing of midfielder George Maluleka and given an indication as to why they opted to bring him in.
Sundowns made the big signing on a pre-contract, much to the dismay of Kaizer Chiefs, who were looking to renew his deal earlier this year.
Maluleka had spent six years in Naturena, where he won the MTN8 and Absa Premiership in 2014/15, and became a key figure in midfield alongside Willard Katsande.
His switch to Sundowns came as quite the surprise, given the raft of midfield options at Chloorkop, but Mosimane has explained what the 31-year-old brings to his side.
“[George] is a good boy, a good player, intelligent, intrinsic also and I have spoken to him about tactics and I have put him through the process of how our number six and eight plays,” Mosimane told the club’s website.
“He comes with a lot of set-piece delivery and he can score, can shoot from outside the box and is willing to learn, which is good and we wish him all the best.”
‘Mido’ has already linked up with his new teammates in Rustenburg, where The Brazilians are currently preparing for the resumption of the 2019/20 season.
He will, however, play no further part in the current campaign, which was suspended back in March, and can only be registered again ahead of the 2020/21 season.
