Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed that the club are looking at releasing several players ahead of the 2020/21 season.
The 2019/20 PSL treble champions are currently on a break following the successful completion of the season, but Mosimane and his technical team are still hard at work.
Some of the work includes a debrief and technical reports on the past campaign, as well as plans for the new season as several players arrive at Chloorkop, while some will also need to depart.
With nearly a dozen confirmed arrivals expected, 'Jingles' recently discussed how they will go about trimming their squad and which criteria will be used to decide who gets shipped out.
"I've given the list. I think we have acquired about 50 percent – I don't know if 50 percent is the right way to put it, but we've acquired a few guys that we want," said Mosimane.
"And I have to wait for the club to announce them. I mean, we have to wait, and we have to release other players. You must understand, we are bringing in younger ones to support the senior players.
"Sometimes it gives the perception that we are taking out all the old players – no, it's not like that. We need [Hlompho] Kekana, we need Denis [Onyango], they are senior players, they drive the team.
"It doesn't mean now we're saying, 'Oh, by the way, how old are you? 31, 32, 33 – out!' No, we don't do that. Probably if you have not really been making the biggest contribution and you are at that age, yes [they have to be released]."
