Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained why he is calling Kaizer Chiefs the new favourites to win the league.
Amakhosi are sitting on top of the Absa Premiership log, five points ahead of the defending champions, who have two games in hand.
Mosimane, who recently said that history favours Sundowns in the title race because they know how to win titles, has changed his tune following recent exertions in the CAF Champions League.
'Jingles' believes Ernst Middendorp's side have the advantage and can bounce back and win the league this season based on the number of games and tournaments they are participating in this season.
"Kaizer Chiefs are doing well. They are doing their business quietly, getting on top, fighting a lot. But it's normal. It's expected," said Mosimane.
"When I came to Sundowns in December , when we finished, we finished out of the top eight, we finished in position 10. Thats where Chiefs finished last year.
"When you don't have top eight and you don't have CAF ([Champions League) and you have a team like Chiefs, you have pride and integrity for the badge to keep.
"It's normal reactions to come out like this. How low can they go? They have it, they have come back strong. I call them a well-rested team. They should be able to compete for the league because they play Saturday and next Saturday.
"They have energy and time to fix their problems at training. We have to play after every three days, so they are favourites [to win the league] as we speak."
Chiefs and Sundowns are set to meet at Loftus Stadium on October 27. They also meet before that in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup on October 12.
