Why Manyisa has not played much

Chippa United will seek to complete their mission to escape the trap of the relegation playoffs with Oupa Manyisa having made just two appearances since signing.

Of the 10 games Chippa have played since Manyisa was signed at the end of March he has only played six minutes in the Nedbank Cup semi-final victory over Pretoria Callies, and was then brought on for the last 20 minutes against Golden Arrows.

He has been an unused substitute in five games and not been in the matchday squad for three games.

While his numbers might look discouraging, word from within the club is that he is in good condition to play and has been unfortunate that those who have played ahead of him have been doing well.

"You cannot even begin to question his condition and approach to the game because he is a reliable player who is just waiting for his break," a contact tells KickOff.com.

"Those that have played ahead of him have been doing well so that is why he has had to wait. He remains a fantastic professional and will have a bigger role to play in the team next season when he has had a proper pre-season. But that will also be dependent on where the team is by then seeing that they are not yet completely safe."

Manyisa's injury battles in the last three years have meant he has managed just 11 appearances with only four of those games full shifts of 90 minutes.

Prior to joining Chippa this year, the 32-year-old had last played in September 2019 while at Sundowns in the first round of the CAF Champions League.

At his prime while at Pirates, he played 51 games in one season.

The experienced midfielder made 254 appearances through the nine-and-a-half years that he spent at Pirates before going on to total 47 games in an injury-ravaged three-year stay at Sundowns.

The two games Chippa have left in which Manyisa could still be used are against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and SuperSport United.
