Mhango richly rewarded for Afcon form

Orlando Pirates forward Gabadinho Mhango's fine goalscoring form for Malawi at this year's Afcon finals has been rewarded with a huge financial incentive.

Mhango scored a brace against Zimbabwe on Friday to place The Flames within touching distance of qualification for the knockout stages for the first time.

The Pirates forward missed the opener against Guinea due to Covid-19 but played from start to finish again on Tuesday against Senegal.

To reach the last 16, the Flames will now be hoping that at least one of the teams from the three remaining groups yet to be concluded don’t finish in a better third place position that them.

Group D closes off today while Groups E and F will be settled on Thursday.

Reports from Malawi say real estate company Hills and Associates has handed Mhango land worth K4,5 million (approximately R85 000) as reward for his showing against The Warriors.

The company through their marketing manager Brian Chikuse has also offered a 40% discount to all other players for any land they want to purchase upon their return from the tournament.

Further, the real estate company has placed a 30% discount on all organisations or individuals buying plots for the players through them.

FAM (Football Association of Malawi) has welcomed the gesture through their president Walter Nyamilandu.

The plot of land given to Mhango is in New Airwing.

The Flames are also set for monetary rewards upon their return depending on how far they go in the tournament.

Mhango is yet to score for Pirates this season in six appearances totalling 141 minutes.

Despite his difficult start to the season the club has already exercised the option to extend his contract.
