Orlando Pirates' injury crisis deepens

Orlando Pirates have provided an update on Happy Jele's condition after the club captain limped off during Thursday's draw against Royal AM.

The Bucanneers' injury crisis worsened on Thursday after captain Happy Jele was forced to be substituted for Thulani Hlatshwayo in the second half of the club's 1-1 draw against Royal AM.

Jele is set to undergo further scans on Friday but the initial feeling from within the Pirates camp is that the veteran defender has picked up a knee injury and could be set to face a spell on the sidelines.

"He will go for his scans tomorrow but at the moment it looks like a knee problem," co-coach Fadlu Davids said following the match.

"We don't know the extent of it. The doctors have checked him but now, of course, with the swelling, we are not really able to make a diagnosis at this very moment.

"Tomorrow we will have the scans and get more information, but it doesn't look good."

Jele becomes the latest in a string of casualties for Pirates this season and joins the likes of Thembinkosi Lorch, Innocent Maela, Zakhele Lepasa, Richard Ofori, Frank Mhango, Wayne Sandilands and Vincent Pule on the club's injury list.
