Micho wary of new-look Wits

Pirates will lock horn with The Clever Boys at the Orlando Stadium, where the two sides will be gunning for top spot in the Absa Premiership this evening.

Wits come into the tie on a high following their two dominant displays in their opening fixtures against Free State Stars and Kaizer Chiefs, while The Buccaneers will be looking to recover from their early MTN8 exit over the weekend.

The last time the sides met would perhaps suggest that Sredojevic has Gavin Hunt’s number in terms of countering their tactics; however, the Italian tactician remains cautious of the danger posed by the many new signings at the Milpark-based outfit.

“It is a totally different ball-game, bearing in mind that Wits have significant changes in their squad and are flying high after two matches,” noted Sredojevic.

“There are similarities in that we need to defend percentage football with long passes, looking to the second balls, but we will need to take care of everything in their team.

“It’s a totally different ball-game we expect, and an unpredictable game, but having in mind that it means a lot that they have won their first two games, they are coming here for a good game.”

‘Micho’ hopes the quick turnaround between this game and their last will help in patching up their wounds from Saturday’s cup disappointment, as he looks for a morale-boosting win against the log leaders, who have six points from two games.

“We want a performance and a result that I want to call ‘proper medicine’ from [the MTN8 defeat]. Usually if a match is after seven days, it’s a long time and that pain stays inside,” he said.

“But, in three to four days – a short period of time, the best way to bounce back is to have a good performance and result against the team that is leading the table at present.”

A victory for Pirates, who presently have four points from two games, could see them leapfrog Wits into top spot and maintain their unbeaten record from their first three games.
