Bucs star to miss ‘original’ Soweto Derby?

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori is a doubt for this weekend's 'original Soweto Derby' clash against Swallows FC.

The Buccaneers are set to return to domestic action this weekend following the conclusion of the international break but could be without the services of starting goalkeeper Richard Ofori when they host rivals Swallows at the Orlando Stadium.

Ofori was part of Ghana's squad which took part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa but had to be substituted during the second half of the encounter against the latter after suffering an apparent thigh injury.

While the full extent of his injury is yet to be determined, the 27-year-old's potential absence would come as a major blow to Pirates who have failed to win in each of their three opening matches of the season, including an MTN 8 quarter-final defeat at the hands of the Dube Birds.

Ofori has made 29 appearances for Pirates since joining the club from Maritzburg United at the start of last season and has established himself as the starting goalkeeper ahead of veterans Wayne Sandilands and Siyabonga Mpontshane.
