The Buccaneers were on an upward trajectory, having won three and drawn one of their four games played in January, but were brought to their knees at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night, going down 3-0 to relegation-threatened Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City.
When asked if this blip on the Pirates chart could potentially dent the rest of the season, Sredojevic was defiant in his reply, insisting he will continue to guide his charges up to where he thinks they should be on the Absa Premiership standings.
“Personally, as a person who never gives up, we shall as a team, with the badge we are carrying and out of respect to our supporters, up to the last moment, push on and look forward towards where we are supposed to be – close to the top, and on the top,” he said.
Currently sitting fourth on the log, ‘Micho’ knows his side have to shake off the loss and respond swiftly, with limited time to prepare ahead of Saturday’s encounter against Maritzburg, who lie two points behind them in sixth position, with a game in hand.
“We are already focusing now on Saturday’s match against Maritzburg,” he said. “We need to find a way to recover the team as it's our third match in seven days, but a match where we need to show our character, measure our values, pull up our socks and our sleeves to show what we are made from.
“It happens that on some days you don’t succeed, but now we are looking towards the upcoming game against Maritzburg.”
Kick-off at Orlando Stadium on Saturday is set for 20h15.
