'Black Jesus' opens door for Bucs, Chiefs

News reaching KickOff.com is that a long-time Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs target is refusing to extend his contract.

'Black Jesus' as Black Leopards striker Joseph Mhlongo is affectionately known arrived at Leopards in July 2017 and it is believed his current contract with the club will expire in June next year.

If that is the case, the 29-year-old, who's been struggling for game-time lately, will be within his rights to sign a pre-contract with a team of his choice during the January transfer window.

Asked to shed some light on the player's situation, Leopards team manager Chief Thidiela curiously referred us to the player himself.

"Speak to him, speak to Mhlongo," Thidiela said.

Mhlongo refused to say too much, instead referring all questions to his agent, who could not be reached on his phone.

"Unfortunately I can't answer that question," Mlongo tells KickOff.com.

"My agent is the person to talk to when it comes to things such as this. Hope you understand. I don't comment on anything because there's a legal person who is responsible for doing that. That's my agent, he is the person I must talk to. I wish I could comment."

Meanwhile, Lidoda Duvha head coach Luc Eymael says he is not aware of any situation between the club and the player.

"I was not aware about this information. I'm not aware about the situation in the club, I'm not aware about his contract, nothing," says the Belgian.

"I don't know when last he played. I don't look for the contract you know. If you remember well [Nhlanhla] Vilakazi he did not want to renew when I was at Free State Stars, but I always played him.

"So it's not a question of that [being sidelined] with Joseph, it's just a question of adapting to my methods of training and to have the opportunity to show me what is he going to do. You know that we are 28 players now so let's perhaps see if he will be in the 18 next time or not."

On Friday evening Leopards visit MTN8 winners SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
