Maritzburg complete double deal

Maritzburg United have bolstered their squad with the signings of Richard Zumah and Brandon Theron.

On Wednesday morning, the Team of Choice announced that the club had acquired the services of Ghanaian forward Zumah (24) and South African winger Theron (28).

"The club is delighted to announce the signings of Richard Zumah and Brandon Theron. Welcome to the Team of Choice!" United said in an official statement.

Zumah arrives in Pietermaritzburg from Ivorian club FC San Pedro, while Theron has been signed from Marumo Gallants.

"With Brandon Theron it's well known that he is a player with good skills, the ability to contribute to a good team performance, I think that's very crucial," head coach Ernst Middendorp added.

"Being able to provide flexibility in terms of the use - whether as a wing-back a full-back or if you want to use him as a more attacking option. He's an interesting player and we are very happy to have him here."

"Richard Zumah is quite unknown here, coming from Ghana. "He played lately for San Pedro in the Ivory Coast, we followed him and we believe a player with his structure, with his style, will fit our idea of playing.

"He's just coming in, he needs some days, he's still young and a player with a certain ability to improve and to fit in, in a proper way.

"We really worked on it in the background, not in public, over weeks to bring them in and get them here and we are very happy to have them as part of our squad."

The duo are the latest in a string of new arrivals at the club, which includes the team's previous acquisitions of Alfred Ndengane, Zukile Kewuti, Lifa Hlongwane and Rowan Human earlier this month.
