Chiefs' seniors sent important message

A former Kaizer Chiefs defender who specialises in the mental aspects of football coaching has sent an urgent message to the club's underperforming senior players.

Amakhosi have got off to a poor start under new coach Gavin Hunt and the longer-serving players have been receiving most of the criticism for failing to lead by example.

Ex-Chiefs star Nhlanhla Kubheka believes for the Glamour Boys to return to their best they need their players to show leadership and prove their worth on the pitch.

"My message to the current senior players at Chiefs is, it is for them to step up and look ahead," he tells

"Let them find inspiration in this regard and be aware on the environment and the challenges ahead of them. It is for them to see an opportunity to shine.

"Let them find inspiration and show their professionalism. They need to step up and behave like professionals. They must show maturity and inspire the younger players.

"They need to demonstrate their values at this point, because that is critical right now. So they need to change their mindset, believe in themselves and be professional about it."
