Dolly excited for ‘CBD’ reunion at Chiefs

Keagan Dolly has shared his thoughts on recreating the famous 'CBD' partnership with Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro after reuniting with the duo at Kaizer Chiefs.

Dolly (28) has returned to South African football for the first time since he left Mamelodi Sundowns for French club Montpellier in 2017 after he penned a three-year deal with Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday evening.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder's move to Naturena has seen him reunite with former Masandawana teammates Billiat and Castro, alongside whom he famously won the league, CAF Champions League and Telkom Knockout treble during the 2015/16 season.

It was during their spell at Sundowns that the trio came to prominence and their partnership was quickly initialised as 'CBD', akin to Real Madrid's 'BBC' comprising of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Barcelona's 'MSN' of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar of the time.

Speaking to the Amakhosi's media during his unveiling, Dolly revealed that he was still in touch with Billiat and Castro and that he was hopeful he could reestablish his on-field connection with them in the gold and black jersey.

"We're still quite close," the former Ajax Cape Town midfielder said. "We speak quite often, myself and Khama [especially], and it's exciting times to play with them again. I always thought that we had a good connection back when we played together at Sundowns.

"Hopefully now we can bring all that we've learned throughout the last couple of seasons at our different clubs and come back together and work hard for the team, score more goals and just encourage each other."

Dolly has also previously played alongside the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Sifiso Hlanti with the South African national team and he admits that the familiar faces will help him adapt quickly to his new surroundings.

"I'm close to a lot of these players," he added. "We've spent a couple of camps at Bafana level together and I think I will feel right at home because I know a lot of the players who are part of the team, and they will make it easier for me to settle in."
