Paulse staying focused on future

The 34-year-old began his footballing career as a youth player at Ikamva, before breaking into the first team in 2000.

Now in his fourth stint with the Cape Town giants, Paulse has enjoyed a fine run for the club, scoring four goals in the first-half of the season to lead the team’s goal charts, while he is also closing in his 250th appearance in Ajax colours.

And, having made his return to the first team in the 2-0 friendly win over Cape Town All Stars this weekend after two appearances for their Multichoice Diski Challenge team, Paulse is hoping for a big impact at the Cape Town Stadium this year.

“It is good to back, hopefully in the second round of fixtures I can get some more game time,” Paulse told his club's official website. “I am still the top scorer at the club this season and hopefully I can add to that.

When asked whether he dwells on statistics such as his appearance record, he said: “No, I haven’t looked back yet at how many games I’ve played or goals I’ve scored, I just enjoy every single day that I am still able to play and give my all.”

He continued: “I am not done yet, even though people might look at my age – I am still fit and hungry, I don’t look back, I look forward…I’m looking forward to maybe another 250 games, who knows?”
