My Dream Signing: Clinton Larsen

Bizana Pondo Chiefs head coach Clinton Larsen has revealed one player he would like to coach one day.

Having being in charge in not less than four top flight clubs in his coaching career, Larsen says he dreams of signing current Footballer of the Season Themba Zwane.

The 31-year-old stands a good chance of defending his 2019/20 Footballer Of The Season title after registering 12 goals and five assists in 28 appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns in all competitions this seasons

"For me when I look at South African football now, the best player in the country is Themba Zwane." Larsen tells

"It's my opinion. People can disagree with me but it's my opinion. So if I say he's the best player in South Africa currently, it would mean that any coach would want him in the team. Am I right? So for me that's the player.

"He's been very consistent with his performances for the last two to three seasons. So I rate him very, very highly, I think he's really, really a top class player. He's learned how to defend. When you look at his impact in terms of what he brings offensively to the team his playmaking ability. Every coach wants a player who retains possession, who is creative, who can play between the lines, play in the half spaces, has a high level of game intelligence, Themba got all these things you know. And he's scoring to his repertoire as well you know. So, he's a complete midfielder that you'll never get anywhere in the continent."

'Mshishi' is often accused of not replicating his form for Sundowns with Bafana Bafana, but Larsen says that is normal in football.

"I don't think it's fair to judge him on when he's playing for the national team because remember the national team changes all the time in terms of the starting XI. Unlike your club team where you are settled, you've really got the same 11, 12, 13 players week in week out. At international level even the best player in the world Messi doesn't perform for Argentina like he does for Barcelona. So, it just depends also on the players around you. Do they click? Are they on the same level as you. These are little things that matter."
