Cosmos have bounced between the top two divisions in recent years, and currently trail log leaders Thanda Royal Zulu by a hefty 13 points at the halfway point of the season.
Macuphu, however, has not ruled out winning the league - which brings instant promotion - as Ezenkosi prepare for their next assignment against Milano United on February 15.
“We are a big team with rich history and amazing potential, and playing in the NFD has done no justice to what this team is capable of, Macuphu told his club's website.
“Presently we’re fifth on the log, but we are not ruling out the possibility of winning the league.
“If we can win five or six games on the trot it would give us a huge advantage of catching up with Thanda Royal at the top. That’s why we are pushing extra hard to, at least, achieve our objective of returning to the PSL.
“It won’t be easy though, but the marvelous talent at Cosmos, and playing under a legend like Dr. Sono, is a driving force on its own. We must just keep working hard to win that promotion because we cannot settle for anything less.
“We also want to do well in the Nedbank Cup where we believe we’ll play against quality opponents.”
Meanwhile, the former Golden Arrows and Royal Eagles man aims to hit double figures in the scoring stakes this term, having netted thrice in the league and twice in the Nedbank Cup.
“My personal target is to score seven or eight more goals and help the team to glory. The good thing is that I’m a utility player and I can fit into any formation adopted by the coach.”
