'On-fire Billiat will help Chiefs win league'

Zambia goalkeeper Mwenya Chibwe says only injuries can prevent Khama Billiat from helping Kaizer Chiefs win the Absa Premiership title this season.

South African-born Chibwe was in goal for Zambia when Billiat scored twice for Zimbabwe in a 2-1 win over Chipolopolo to move second in Group H of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Billiat and captain Knowledge Musona combined twice as the Warriors beat the hosts at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

"With no doubt... unless injuries," replied Chibwe when KickOff.com asked him if he thought Billiat can help Chiefs win the league title.

"He was on fire, what a player. He made a difference in the Zimbabwe team. Every time the ball went to him [you knew] something is going to happen... making a save or my defenders block or it's a corner.

"The first goal it was a corner and Billiat got a head to it. The second one Musona dribbled my defenders then passed to Billiat, he was left alone in the box then punished."

This was the Polokwane City goalkeeper's first official game for the Zambian national team, and he says he will be forever grateful for the welcome he received in the country.

"The game was good, we had like the best chances in the first half. We played so well, I think luck is not on our side. The people here really loved me, wow! It was amazing, they were even singing my name 'Chibwe'.

"It felt so good representing Zambia in Zambia, and getting the love it was just amazing. Oh yes I had the best game of my life and... he [Billiat] not really spoiled it for me. I really wanted to win at home but we lost, that's the only disappointment I have, but performance-wise I told myself I have to do my best to win people's hearts here in Zambia.

"They welcomed me so well... and I believe my performance did it, I had a very good game. This was my first game with all players being available because last camp I came most of my defenders didn't come. So for me what I can say is more time with them, then I can get to understand them more."

Amakhosi are on top of the log table with 28 points after 11 games, with 10 points separating them from second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who still have one game in hand.
