'Only more to come from Damons'

Chippa United coach Clinton Larsen has praised Gregory Damons for his fantastic performance on his debut against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Damonds was named man of the match against the Absa Premiership defending champions at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw last Wednesday.

Larsen praised the young boy for his performance and revealed he started preparing him for that moment from January when he joined Chippa United.

"I don't think everyone knew who he is, but after tonight we do hey. Gregory Damons trained with me from January when I joined the team last season right until May when we closed," Larsen said.

"When I joined Chippa United, I invited five MDC players to train with us, one was on the bench tonight, for this exact situation if we get injuries. We picked up a few knocks with Diamond Thopola, Cailus Maziya, William Twala and Lehlonoholo Masalesa, we've got like six players out but we didn't make excuses, we threw the kid in the deep end and he proved from training that he was ready."

Larsen says there's more to come from the Port Elizabeth-born midfielder and South Africa should expect more brave performances from the youngster.

"I'm so happy for Damons, clean-living boy, very disciplined, first at training, last to leave. I couldn't be more happy for him. I think he announced himself to South African football tonight and there's only more to come."
