Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has a new headache with more bad news coming through on one of the club’s pre-season signings.
South American striker Mauricio Affonso has suffered another setback and it will take a bit longer for the player to make his official debut for the defending Absa Premiership champions.
The Uruguayan striker sustained an ankle injury during pre-season training in Mbombela in July. Mosimane recently spoke about how the player is no longer feeling any pain and that there was a possibility of him making a first appearance sooner rather than later. The player had even travelled with Sundowns to Free State for the Absa Premiership match against Bloemfontein Celtic last week, but was not in the 18-man team.
He must have been encouraged that he got to travel with the team, but he now has to deal with the nightmare of having to recover from the same injury which has kept him out of the team.
Mosimane has confirmed the injury to the lanky forward.
“He got injured again at training. It’s the same injury again, it’s unbelievable,” said Mosimane.
“It’s a setback again with him,” he added.
Sundowns still have Thapelo Morena, Phakamani Mahlambi, Rivaldo Coetzee, Anthony Laffor and Ricardo Nascimento out nursing injuries.
