Masinga says he expects coach Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba to include the tall Kaizer Chiefs centre-back in his starting line-up to face Senegal in their next Africa Cup of Nations clash on Friday.
Last night’s loss means Bafana anchor the Group C standings, raising the stakes for their remaining matches against the Teranga Lions and Ghana.
“I would not change much if I was Shakes. Mathoho, who was suspended, will obviously come back in and he will bring some stability to the defence. The team clearly missed him,” Masinga tells KickOff.com.
“To me, the defence was not as strong as we would have wanted. We also failed to take all our scoring chances. I think the return of Mathoho will be good to the team.”
Masinga refuses to write off Bafana and insists that Mashaba’s men can still make it to the next round of the continental showcase.
“Look, everyone knows that this group is difficult and this is why they call it the group of death. I think we will do well against Senegal.
“If you look at Senegal, you notice that they have a very tight defence. It is good that we have fast players such as Tokelo Rantie and Thuso Phala who will be running at the defenders. This will confuse Senegal and hopefully we can capitalise on that.
“They [Bafana] are not out because it is too early to make these conclusions. They still have two more matches so let us continue to support them,” adds Masinga.
