Nedbank Cup hero lands new deal

Marumo Gallants have won the battle for one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier Soccer League.

The Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament Washington Arubi's future has been a subject of speculation since the end of the 2020/21 Season.

Arubi's initial contract with the club expired at the end of last month and look poised to move on as the club rebranded from Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila ahead of their new era.

But the 36-year-old Zimbabwean has now signed a new two-year deal with the Limpopo club.

Arubi made a huge contribution at Gallants last season in his 33 appearances helping the club survive their first season in the DSTV Premiership.

Gallants also won the Nedbank Cup and qualify for next season's CAF Confederations Cup.

"Arubi is staying at Marumo, he is happy there," his agent Michael Ngobeni confirms to "He is happy staying. There's nothing [bad] that has happened.

"He's decided he wants to stay with the same club. He wants to go and play in Africa (Confederations Cup).

"Of course we had a deal somewhere already on the table but he said no he'd rather stay there and go and play in Africa and help the club again.

"So there's nothing I can do, I had to support his move you know. Because at the end of the day my job is not to impose clubs on a player. If he's happy to stay there you know that's okay with me also."
