Cape Town City winger Mark Mayambela has revealed the reason he plays his best football every time he comes up against Kaizer Chiefs.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic, Orlando Pirates and Chippa United dribbling wizard, who recently joined the Citizens, has never disappointed each time he has faced the Glamour Boys.
The 32-year-old, known mostly for his exploits at Soweto rivals Pirates, reveals that his childhood dream of turning out for the gold and black is what inspires him to shine against them.
"I don't know like exactly, maybe it's the fact that I grew up supporting them you see," Mayambela tells KickOff.com.
"So maybe I always have that soft spot for them or that small inspiration to play for them. You know if I had a dream team to play for, it would be them."
Mayambela will be facing the same Amakhosi once more on Saturday in the Telkom Knockout last 16.
"We all know what kind of a team they are with their current form. It's not going to be an easy game but of course at the same time it's always an exciting game to play.
"I know for a fact that it will be a sold-out game, people will come and watch the game so it's exciting for both sets of players and we know we also have the capabilities to win the game, irrespective of their current form and where they are on the log.
"I think it's a different ball game, and also it's an opportunity for us to get into winning ways. I believe that this is the right platform and the right time to change our fortunes as well.
"So it's going to be an interesting game, we are an exciting team as well, we play good football as well, so it's just a matter of converting our chances and making sure we win the game, especially playing at home in front of our home crowd."
Mayambela says he has been settling in very well in his new home at City.
"Everything is going well you know, I think the technical team and the players made it simple for me to adjust. The players have welcomed me as well you know, it feels like home, we have great bunch of players, great leaders you know, players that have played the game for a long time as well, and also young players that look up to me.
"So you know, it's always an inspiration when you have such an environment, you know it's an environment for football and nothing else. So we are only focused on football and I'm enjoying myself."
