Mayambela: I'm still a baby crawling

This month marks exactly four years since Mark Mayambela turned himself over to God, and he reveals more about how his conversion is changing him.

Mayambela is one of several local players belonging to the ZCC church. Others include Polokwane City midfielder Edgar Manaka and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mahlatse Makudubela.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda is a staunch member of the Enlightened Christian Gathering under prophet Shepherd Bushiri.

Speaking to KickOff.com, the ever-enigmatic Mayambela says he has been revelling in his spiritual journey since April 2016.

"When Jesus was assembling his team of disciples, He chose all 12 of them and they never chose him. So the church chose me," says Mayambela, who recently visited the holy sites of Jerusalem.

"I was baptised in April 2016. It's been a great journey honestly. I am very humbled by every lesson that I learn. It shows me character about myself that I was never aware of."

'Professor' has not ruled out the possibility of becoming a pastor after his football career.

"If God sends me in that direction, I will be the one. I am still a baby that is crawling at the moment," he says.

Mayambela recently donated food parcels to the needy in Khayelitsha, Cape Town alongside Ayanda Patosi.

"I am still trying to collect more food parcels so that we continue helping the needy during this difficult time," he concludes.
