Maritzburg United have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of Serbian defender Dusan Stevic after just half a season at the club.

Stevic joined Maritzburg at the beginning of the year from FK Napredak Krusevac but battled to make an impression in the 11 games that he featured in playing right back and right midfield.

KickOff.com has now been informed that all relevant paperwork relating to the termination of the contract have now been finalised as of Tuesday.

He had a year remaining on his contract but has instead been paid a settlement fee, and is now expected to continue with his career back in Serbia.

Two weeks ago, Stevic spoke about his surprise at being pushed out at the club when he was already planning to bring his family into the country.

“I was surprised when they said they want to break the contract. I have a five-month-old baby and was planning to come to South Africa with them, but this is now disaster for me because Maritzburg are now saying they want to break the contract,”Stevic told this website a fortnight ago.

Stevic, who has previously played in Serbia, North Macedonia and Greece, is now amongst a long list of players that have left Maritzburg which includes Bongani Mpandle, Jethren Barr, Daniel Morgan, Bandile Shandu and Kwanda Mngonyama.

Mpandle has sinced joined Cape Town City while Shandu and Mngonyama have both joined Orlando Pirates.
