M'burg lead race for highly rated Cele

Premiership

KickOff.com has learnt that Maritzburg United are leading the race to sign highly rated South African export Thabo Cele.

The former under-20 international was earlier linked with Mamelodi Sundowns but it now appears United could secure his signature for next season.

Cele is looking forward to returning to South Africa after his current team Cova da Piedade were relegated from the second division in Portugal and subsequently reinstated.

According to a source close to Cele, the Team of Choice have made contact with the 23-year-old KZN Academy graduate with the intention to lure him back to the PSL next season.

"There has been contact. If things go very well he could sign for Maritzburg United for next season," the source tells KickOff.com.

"There was interest from Sundowns but there was no official word from the club."

Maritzburg was the first team to return for pre-season training last week Tuesday in preparation for the 2020/21 season.
