Maritzburg United will still be in the Absa Premiership next season after a victory over Royal Eagles confirmed that they won’t be getting relegated.
The Team of Choice registered their third straight victory in the promotion/relegation play-offs, beating National First Division side Royal Eagles 2-0 at Chatsworth Stadium.
Eagles had more possession and goal attempts in the first half, but it was Maritzburg who went into the break with a 1-0 lead, thanks to a goal from Ndlovu, who is said to be leaving the club after the play-offs for either Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates.
It has not a good season for Ndlovu after winning the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season last term, however the goal he scored reminded fans of the quality he has. It was only his second goal of the campaign and it was no doubt the most important.
Eric Tinkler’s men, who are yet to concede a goal in the play-offs, gave themselves some breathing space in the final 20 minutes of the game when former Pirates forward Thabiso Kutumela scored from a set piece.
It was a tough season for Maritzburg, but now they can take break and start planning to ensure that they do not go through another stressful campaign fighting relegation.
