Maritzburg United have confirmed the acquisition of former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brylon Petersen on a permanent deal.
Petersen (25) has completed a move to DStv Premiership side Maritzburg United after parting ways with the Amakhosi at the end of July.
"Welcome, Brylon Petersen! The club is delighted to announce the acquisition of Brylon who joins from Kaizer Chiefs on a permanent deal," the Team of Choice announced on Wednesday.
He spent the last five seasons with Chiefs but failed to make a competitive appearance during his spell at Naturena, where he most recently served as cover to Itumeleng Khune, Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce Bvuma.
Petersen, who was born in Pietermaritzburg, becomes United's seventh new signing ahead of the 2021/22 season, with the club having already confirmed the arrivals of Lifa Hlongwane, Rowan Human, Zukile Kewuti, Alfred Ndengane, Brandon Theron and Richard Zumah.
"It feels good to be here, I was here with coach Ernst before – in 2013 my matric year, I'm from Pietermaritzburg," Petersen told the club's website.
"It feels the same, but with a different aspect now because I am pushing to play, pushing to win a place in the team. It's a bit different, but the general atmosphere is the same. The guys have welcomed me, the coach has welcomed me, so I'm excited for what's ahead.
"There's no need for adjustments, I know the surroundings, I know the area, the people within the city so I'm sure they will welcome back home to the Team of Choice."
Petersen is one of seven players who have been shown the door by Chiefs
