Mngqithi defends Mvala after red card

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has defended Mothobi Mvala after he received a red card against Black Leopards last night.

Sundowns were forced to finish with 10 men after Mvala was dismissed for a professional foul on Leopards striker Rodney Ramagalela in the 66th minute.

Yet despite being one man short, The Brazilians went all the way to claim a 2-1 victory over Lidoda Duvha thanks to a brace by Peter Shalulile, with his winning goal coming deep into stoppage time.

"A man had to do what he had to do. Unfortunately he took one for the team," said Mngqithi of Mvala after the game in Venda.

"Unfortunately I didn't see very well. I thought there was a little bit of cover. I was also hoping it could be yellow but unfortunately it was a red card.

"But honestly the boy helped us because Rama G is very quick and you know he is also clinical in front of goal."

Sundowns are expected back in Gauteng today to start preparing for their next DStv Premiership match against Chippa United in Tshwane on Sunday.
