Sundowns star to wait for now...

Premiership

Sundowns were crowned the new kings of continental club football on Sunday which gives them the option of immediately adorning their jersey with a star above the club logo – the same way that Orlando Pirates have done since the year they ruled Africa in 1995.

However, what must be noted is that adding a star on a jersey needn't be sanctioned by FIFA and is rather the choice of the team concerned in symbolising an important trophy.

With the hype around the star in South Africa it is little wonder The Brazilians have chosen to go for it.

Thulani Thuswa, the communications coordinator at Sundowns, confirms that they are in talks with the German manufacturers.

“We are busy with the finer details regarding that matter,” Thuswa tells KickOff.com.

“This must eventually be a win-win situation for everyone because we understand the fact there are plenty who have already bought the jersey without the star. So we are talking to Puma with regards to that. For now fans need to understand that we only got back to the country yesterday and we have been in camp preparing for today’s game. However, it will ultimately be done."

Officials at Puma have told KickOff.com that they will be guided by Sundowns on the issue of how the star will be handled as it is all in their hands.

Puma became The Brazilians’ new technical sponsors with effect from the start of this season.

That essentially means Sundowns will play in jerseys without a star this evening when they meet Polokwane City in their delayed Telkom Knockout first round match.
