Sundowns have won every trophy but the MTN8 under the guidance of head coach Pitso Mosimane and they will be looking to get their hands on the title, to get the new campaign off to a flyer. They lost out in the 2016 final to Bidvest Wits at Mbombela Stadium, which is the closest they’ve come to getting their hands on the title.

Club captain Hlompho Kekana would love for the club to win the trophy, so that they are remembered for dominance in the PSL.

“It would be nice to win the MTN8. At a team like Mamelodi Sundowns we’ve got the bigger picture which is to win trophies, irrespective of which trophies it is we want to win it. We want to remembered as the generation that brought so many trophies to Sundowns. It will be nice for us to win it,” Kekana said.

Sundowns, who last won the competition when it was still known as the SAA Supa8, will open their MTN8 campaign against Bloemfontein Celtic, who finished eighth in the Absa Premiership.
