Liberian winger Laffor replaced Mzikayise Mashaba after a goalless first half, while veteran midfielder Modise came on for Themba Zwane with seven minutes to go at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Laffor did well to set up goalscorer Zwane, and Modise played his part in shoring up the result against the Urban Warriors.
"I think the sub went well, Anthony came on but with time as the game went on got his confidence and I happy for him, the second goal that he passed,” said Mosimane.
“He showed leadership, showed that he is not selfish. He showed how important was the game, he gave the ball to 'Mshishi' [Zwane] to score.”
Mosimane added of Modise: “He killed the game. He loves the ball, he loves open game, spread the passes and keep the momentum going. He kept the team's confidence on the ball because once we scored the second goal they did press us. That showed the difference in terms of experience.”
The victory leaves the Brazilians two points behind log leaders Cape Town City with two matches in hand, but Mosimane insisted the Citizens are favourites to win the championship.
