Inspired by the rise of Percy Tau, one of Mamelodi Sundowns’ midfielder is determined to work harder and one day make a move abroad.
Sphelele Mkhulise, the man people call ‘Pitso’, without a doubt has the talent to become one of the country’s finest midfielders, but he needs to play regularly to start getting the attention he deserves. He was promising during pre-season and it’s now just about waiting his turn to play, though competition from the likes of Hlompho Kekana, Rivaldo Coetzee, Tiyani Mabunda and Andile Jali is tough in the middle of the park.
“I used to stay with Percy Tau at the [Sundowns] residence. We did not get a chance to play together in the first team. I think he is doing wonders [overseas]. He is a hard worker and he always wants to learn. That’s what I also need to learn. I must work hard and be focused,” the 23-year-old tells KickOff.com.
Mkhulise recently stated that he wants to stay at Sundowns rather than go out on loan to get game time. This is because he is learning a lot from the likes of Kekana, Mabunda and Jali, who all tell him that his time to feature on a regular basis will come.
“I learn a lot from the guys, how they move, how they pass the ball, how manage the space. I learn a lot and I’m very happy to be around them because they motivate me, especially Kekana, Shuga [Mabunda] and AJ [Jali]. They motivate me and tell me that my time will come. So I’m really happy to be here and around the guys.”
