Mamelodi Sundowns left back Lyle Lakay has spoken about his lack of game time early on in the season.
Lakay featured 42 times in all competitions last term, finishing the season as one of the players with the most appearances for Sundowns. With Tebogo Langerman doing well at the moment at left back, Lakay will have to wait for his opportunity to play.
“No injuries or anything, it’s just a matter of selection. As you know Langerman has been doing well, so I just have to continue to work hard and wait for my chance,” the former Cape Town City player says.
Lakay will be hoping to get an opportunity when Sundowns take on Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 at Lucas Moripe Stadium tonight (20h15).
The player was on the losing side when he was with the Citizens two years ago, as they were defeated on penalties by SuperSport United. This time he hopes he can win it with Sundowns, who have not won this competition under the tutelage of Pitso Mosimane.
“It’s a trophy Sundowns has not won and me personally it’s one that I’d like to add, having missed out on it two years ago. We are prepared to battle with Celtic. Obviously the coach has his game plan. It’s the quickest competition to win, so we are prepared and ready.”
