Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has refused to be drawn on speculation linking the club to midfielders Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule.

Supersport United were recently forced to firmly dismiss reports linking both players with moves away from the club ahead of the new season.

Speaking at Wednesday's DStv premiership launch, Mokwena declined to comment on the Brazilians' rumoured interest in the SuperSport duo.

"I can't speak because they are Supersport United players, and I've got respect for the club and huge respect for the staff," Mokwena said.

"I have huge respect for Kaitano Tembo as a coach. I have respect for Stan Matthews and speaking about the speculation will show a level of disrespect that I don't want to go to.

Mokwena also revealed that his side, who are again favourites for the league title, are looking forward to a competitive campaign.

"We are looking ahead to a very entertaining but competitive season. We understand what's expected of us, and through our preparation, we will be able to compete at the highest level."

Sundowns welcome Amazulu in the season opener at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday.

Kick-off is at 17:00.
