Downs give injury update ahead of CT City clash

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has declared a clean bill of health for his team ahead of a tricky trip to face Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership clash.

Sundowns' previous fixture was a 4-0 hammering of Marumo Gallants with some of their star players absent, including Rivaldo Coetzee, Denis Onyango and Thabiso Kutumela.

Mngqithi admitted that his side will cautiously travel to Cape Town after beating the Citizens in the MTN8 Cup final in Durban a few weeks ago.

"We're going into the match with a lot of respect and humility, the MTN8 result is history now," Mngqithi said.

"It is very important to go into this match and respect it because they gave us a tough time in the MTN8 and based on that we know what to expect in the match.

"They will be more galvanised and motivated to try and turn the results and we know the challenges ahead of us.

"Fortunately the break came at the right time for us. We had some small knocks to Rivaldo and Mudau but now all those players are back in training.

Mngqithi importantly gave his side a clean bill of health ahead of a crucial round of fixtures.

"We almost have a full-strength squad as it is now, which also gives us a difficult position in terms of team selection," Mngqithi added.

"But truth be told, it's a group that we believe has the capacity to get the results that we want."

Mamelodi Sundowns impressively remain unbeaten so far this season after nine games and currently lead the standings on 25 points.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
