Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane continues to wait for his new signing to finally get fit and ready for competitive football.
South American striker Mauricio Affonso sustained an injury before the start of the season, not long after the club had announced him as a new player. The striker has been trying to get fit and will be hoping he can finally make his debut in the coming weeks.
Mosimane says he has been working with the player so that he can understand how the likes of Sibusiso Vilakazi and Themba Zwane play.
“We are waiting for that guy to be on the pitch and train. I want to see him kicking the ball, I haven’t seen him kicking the ball. So hopefully he recovers well, but we are working a little bit more with him now,” Mosimane said.
"I was just working with him and my analyst on how the team plays. He needs to be able to understand how Vila plays, how Mshishi plays, how [Gaston] Sirino plays. It’s not an easy thing that you bought a player and then you fit him in. They don’t fit in easily and it takes time. It’s not easy. That’s how why we decided to stay away from buying a lot of players. How are you going to make it gel? It takes time, and you can see with other clubs that bought many players that some haven’t even played.”
