He may have missed out on winning the PSL Footballer of the Season on quite a number of occasions now, but Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana is happy with the recognition he continues to get.
Kekana has been nominated for a fourth time for the PSL Footballer of the Season, and is also a candidate to win the Absa Premiership players’ player and midfielder of the season awards.
The 33-year-old, who missed just one match for Sundowns this past season as he lifted his sixth career league trophy, is competing with teammate Themba Zwane and Orlando Pirates’ Thembinkosi Lorch for the three awards.
Even if he does not win it this season, Kekana wants to see his name amongst the nominees against next term.
“I’m happy with the fact that I have been nominated again and I feel I should be even happier because I managed to win my sixth league title and it was the ninth for the club, so we should very proud for the work that we have been doing,” Kekana tells KickOff.com.
“Personally I feel I should be happy with the memories I have created in football because they are beautiful when I look back at them. With the awards, I’m happy because this is the fifth time, so this is special for me. I want to do it again next season. I’m creating history.”
