'Zwane was better than Manyama'

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Lucky Maselesele believes if it wasn't for hate and jealousy, Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane would be getting more praise in the PSL.

'Mshishi' has been one of the most consistent players in the country and is yet to win a top award in the top-flight.

The 31-year-old has been tipped by many to win big this season and is expected to compete against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs duo Lebohang Manyama and Samir Nurkovic at the PSL Awards.

But Maselesele feels Zwane is the 2019/20 player of the season for playing a huge role in Masandawana's treble-winning season also producing vital winning goals and assists during the bio-bubble.

"I give the PSL player of the season award to Themba Zwane, he has been consistent for years," Maselesele tells KickOff.com.

"He has been very underrated for years. I don't know if it's hate or jealousy for the fact that he's playing for Mamelodi Sundowns and they've been dominating.

"Mshishi has been instrumental for Sundowns for years, making things happen for them not only this season but he has been doing it for seasons."

The former Amakhosi star says the only competitor that would've stopped Zwane from winning the award was Lebogang Manyama, but he let himself down when Chiefs needed him the most.

"Manyama let himself down. He was so close but couldn't keep the same performances in critical stages of the season," Maselesele reckons.

"I spoke to him two weeks back and told him how so close he was to winning the top award, but he didn't deliver when it was mattered."
