Skelem responds to Chiefs rumours

Kaizer Chiefs target Leletu Skelem has responded exclusively KickOff.com amid transfer rumours linking him with his childhood club.

The Stellenbosch FC winger is believed to be one of the players Amakhosi have earmarked for next season.

The 2021/22 season will be the 22-year-old's last at the Cape Town-based Stellies as his contract is approaching its end, but he is not yet sure if his dream of donning the famous gold and black colours of Chiefs will finally happen.

"I'm not sure bro, I'm not sure," Skelem tells KickOff.com.

"Aah there's no pressure grootman, remember those are just sources [who are linking him to Chiefs]. So if they [Chiefs] can come to me straight and talk to my agent and club it's going to be a new chapter, a new challenge if I'm going to be playing for a big team.

"Even though it's not confirmed yet... it's a rumour until my agent tells me, 'Boy, next season you are joining Kaizer Chiefs, here's a contract.' Or here's a pre-contract."

Skelem says he is ready to carry the pressure of playing for a big team like Chiefs.

"Ja definitely, football is not a one-man sport like in tennis, it's a team sport. Obviously as a player when you get to a team you must make a difference because they saw something in you, so why not do extra more?

"So if I happen to join Kaizer Chiefs I will have to do extra more to help bring back the glory days of winning trophies."

Skelem, who can play both as a left-winger and right-winger, always enjoys playing against Amakhosi as he plays his best football every time he gets a chance to face them.

"I don't have any grudge against them, it's just that I grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs, up until at a stage where I reached PSL," he reveals.

"What motivates me against them is playing against players I grew up supporting like Khune, Mphahlele, Katsande... when I was young I used to watch a lot of Kaizer Chiefs games."

In his 16 appearances this season, Skelem has netted once and provided two assists.
