Maboe making Sundowns tick

Premiership

He showed a lot of promise during his time at Maritzburg United, but joining Sundowns has taken his game to another level. When he joined Sundowns, Maboe spoke about wanting to challenge for the PSL Footballer of the Season award and, eventually, do well enough to earn a move abroad. The midfielder is certainly on the right track to achieving both these goals.

Maboe has scored six goals this season and has four assists. Last season he scored five goals in all competitions and finished the campaign with seven assists.

What’s taking his game to another level is how he has been able to play in different positions since joining Sundowns. Maboe has played as an attacking midfielder, in the number 10 role, and on the wing at times, but it’s the way he has been able to adjust to playing upfront that shows how much of a versatile player he is. He does not score much playing upfront, but his workrate is impressive. He tries his best to win every ball and his movement helps create spaces in the box for teammates, because defenders are so focused on him.

Maboe is certainly raising his hand for the Footballer of the Season award and will play a key role in the final few months of the campaign, as Sundowns look to defend their Absa Premiership title.
