Maritzburg United announce 5 new signings

After parting ways with Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Jose Ali Meza, Maritzburg United have now bolstered their squad with the acquisition of five new signings.

The Team of Choice signaled their intent in the transfer market on Monday after announcing that the club had concluded deals to sign Tawanda Macheke, Genino Palace, Lucky Baloyi, Steven Pereira and Friday Samu.

"....I am convinced that all of the players will have a crucial [and] productive input for us in the remaining matches of the season," coach Ernst Middendorp said in part of a statement released by the club.

Macheke was most recently on the books of Zimbabwean side Black Rhinos and Samu joins from Zambia's Green Buffaloes, while Palace and Cape Verde international, Steven Pereira, arrive following spells in Portugal with Academica de Coimbra and UD Oliveirense, respectively.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Baloyi is also among the new faces in Pietermaritzburg, having signed from Royal AM, and is looking to hit the ground running during the second half of the DStv Premiership campaign.

"I am so excited to have joined Maritzburg United and everyone at the club has been so welcoming and supportive towards me ever since I arrived," the 31-year-old said.

"I'll do my best to contribute to the team and help us achieve our goals for the remainder of the season. I am looking forward to using this opportunity to help the club in any way possible. it feels great to be here."
