Mngonyama revels in Bucs move

New Orlando Pirates signing Kwanda Mngonyama has shared his delight after joining the Buccaneers earlier this week.

Mngonyama (27) was announced as one of four new Pirates signings earlier this week and has signed an initial two-year deal with the Soweto giants after parting ways with Maritzburg United upon the end of his contract.

The versatile centre-back, who is a self-confessed Bucs supporter, arrived at the club as a free agent on Monday and could not hide his joy at completing a deal to join Josef Zinnbauer's side.

"...Orlando Pirates is a club I grew up supporting and by the grace of God, He made it possible that I get the opportunity to be part of the club. So yeah, I’m really looking forward to it," he told the club's website.

He has already begun training with his new teammates ahead of the 2021/22 DStvPremiership season and revealed that he was looking forward to challenging for a spot in the starting XI despite the depth of the squad.

"I got a warm welcome from the guys, which made me feel at home. Even though I can tell I’m in a different environment, I felt comfortable throughout," Mngonyama added. "...There are quite a few players who have been my teammates in the past. So it was good to see some familiar faces.

"...With the experienced players we have, I feel I have a great opportunity to learn from them and improve my game. With hard work, I know the opportunities will come. I just have to stay focused and keep fit.

"Plus I’m glad we still have the likes of Happy Jele, Thulani Hlatshwayo, and Ntsikelelo Nyauza. Those are players I can learn from and improve my game for the benefit of the Club."

The former Cape Town City star also had a message for the club's faithful supporters, who will no doubt be keen to see their new man take to the pitch when the new season kicks off later this year.

"Without promising heaven and earth, all I can say is I’m happy to be a part of this great Club, and looking forward to delivering to the best of my ability," Mngonyama concluded.
