Mahachi opens up on Bucs exit

SuperSport United midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi has opened up on his departure from Orlando Pirates and discussed his potential reunion tonight.

Mahachi left Pirates at the start of pre-season, along with striker Thamsanqa Gabuza, to join SuperSport in what many saw as a rather surprising move.

The Zimbabwe international last just one season at The Buccaneers despite arriving under plenty of exciting from Golden Arrows.

However, the 25-year-old has quickly put the chapter behind him and believes he has now found a ‘home’ with Matsatsantsa, where he has set his sights on silverware.

“Firstly, I want to thank Orlando Pirates and the chairman [Irvin Khoza] for giving me the opportunity to play for a big club like Pirates,” said Mahachi.

“But I don’t want to look back. I’m happy that I’ve found my home at SuperSport United, so I’ve started working hard to win something with the team.

“I’m new, so I’m still trying to see the structures, like the game model of the team, and I’m pushing myself extra hard so that I can be there [on the pitch].”

Potentially coming to blows with his old teammates in this evening’s Absa Premiership encounter at the Mbombela Stadium, Mahachi insisted he has nothing to prove and further assured that he has not shared any insight with coach Kaitano Tembo.

“No, I don’t have anything to worry about. Pirates is a good team; they are a big team in South Africa, and they play good football,” he added.

“For us as a team, we need to be prepared. Our coach knows that when you play against Pirates, they are a good playing team and he knows everything about them.

“We just need to focus on his game-plan as players, so that we can try to win the game. I haven’t been asked [about their tactical setup or anything].”
