Khama Billiat praises new Chiefs signing

Khama Billiat has reserved special praise for a new teammate as Chiefs prepare to get their season underway

"He’s [Du Preez] a quality striker, he’s got speed, a good touch and he knows how to make himself free. It’s a blessing to play with a striker like that. We’re happy to have him," Billiat said.

Ashley Du Preez spearheaded Stellenbosch FC to a top-four finish last season, contributing nine goals and three assists for Stellies. Chiefs acted swiftly in securing his services and typing the forward down to a three-year contract ahead of the new season.

Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Royal AM in the first weekend of the 22/23 DStv Premiership weekend. Chiefs will be desperate to avoid a third consecutive defeat at the hands of Thwihli Thwahla after losing 1-0 in December and a 4-1 hammering in September last year.

Although Du Preez has been more effective as a wing forward or false nine, the responsibility of finding goals will likely fall to the 25-year-old’s feet against Royal AM as Zwane continues his search for an out-and-out number nine.

At 31, Khama Billiat is going into his fifth season with Amakhosi and is now considered one of the club’s senior players. He appeared 29 times for the club last season with a contribution of eight goals and eight assists. His experience will be vital for Chiefs' new youthful side that includes the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Njabulo Blom and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo among others.

The match against Royal AM is scheduled for a 15:00 kickoff on Saturday and Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has already confirmed that Sifiso Hlanti, Sibusiso Mabiliso Phathutshedzo Nange will miss the clash.
