Moleko reveals Chiefs regret

Moleko is currently in his seventh season at Naturena since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic ahead of the 2012/13 season but has yet to establish himself as a first team regular.

The 29-year-old was once considered a promising youngster in his days at Phunya Sele Sele, before being snapped up by the Soweto giants after two seasons in the PSL.

However, his career has since stalled having made less than 50 Absa Premiership appearance for Amakhosi, though he has continuously renewed his deal with the club.

Now in the final six months of his contract, on which the club still hold a one-year option, Moleko has admitted regret over how things have panned out since seeking greener pastures nearly seven years ago.

“I’ll say, yes, I do have [regrets], but again it’s life challenges, and they say, ‘You never know what your future holds’, so for me I’ll say, yes, I do have regrets,” Moleko told the media on Thursday.

“But as a person, I’m happy with who I am today, I have gold medals that I never knew would come, but I’ll say I regret [some decisions] because I thought I could do much better [than at Celtic] and I thought I’d be one of the best, which I still believe I am.

“I think if I had opportunities long ago then maybe by this year I would have been somewhere [in my career] now, but as they say, things happen for a reason.”

Moleko has since become more prominent under coach Ernst Middendorp, having started eight of the club’s nine domestic games and only missing the Sundowns defeat in January as well as their CAF Confederation Cup matches after being omitted from the squad list by Giovanni Solinas.
