Kgoloko Thobejane has advised Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to follow in rivals Mamelodi Sundowns' footsteps when it comes to the hiring of coaches.
Thobejane, who's been sitting at home without a proper job since he was sacked by Baroka in March last year, believes the reason the Soweto giants can't match Sundowns' recent success is because they hire underachievers as coaches.
The former Bakgaga coach is backing Rhulani Mokwena to succeed with the Buccaneers if given enough time.
"Eh he will succeed, they are all from Soweto. He is their child, they must just give him a chance," Thobejane tells KickOff.com.
"They must not lose patience. He is going to fix Pirates. You know there is no 'therefore' in football."
Thobejane does not agree with those who say Mokwena has bitten off more than he can chew by accepting one of the most demanding jobs in South African football.
"Those are the people who don't understand football. Rhulani Mokwena has been at Sundowns as assistant... he is not an amateur in football. This thing of of Chiefs and Pirates always hiring coaches who are underachievers from outside while we have capable people here at home, ba tlo phela ba sokotsi [they won't stop struggling].
"Right now if it's not Sundowns it's Wits who wins the league. Where is Chiefs and Pirates because they want people from outside? Rhulani Mokwena is right, they must just give him time. It's not about the results at the moment... I think he started very well with the draws.
"Look at Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he took over he coached 10 games and won them all... but look what happened afterwards, football doesn't have a 'therefore'. So someone who starts by losing and drawing, once he starts winning.. .that's football.
"Mokoena is right. He is sharp for that position. He is their child so they can't say 'let's win you are under pressure'. Yes if someone is from outside the country we need results yes because it's a big team. So if a child is from here at home let's support him.
"Rhulani Mokoena will do wonders for Pirates. It's not like these coaches from outside who come here and play exciting football but at the end of the season there's no cup. Yes some coaches I won't mention by name. Ja they are busy saying they are winning, winning, winning... but when we look at cups they have nothing.
"Rhulani he must not doubt himself, he is a good coach. He must believe in himself and he has started alright. I think he will win the next game and that's going to be his starting point."
