Katlego Mphela explains his belief that George Maluleka will not suffer the same fate as a previous George who left Naturena for Chloorkop.
Former top striker Katlego Mphela, who played alongside 'Mido' at SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs, has backed Mamelodi Sundowns' new midfielder to succeed at the club next season.
Masandawana have signed Maluleka on a pre-contract from Amakhosi, according to an official Chiefs statement, and Mphela does not believe the signing will flop the way George Lebese's move did.
"I know George personally, I've played with him. I see lots of people saying hey it's a wrong move for him. Maybe they judge him because of other George, I don't know," Mphela tells KickOff.com.
"But I don't think it will be the same case with him because first of all they don't play the same positions. Secondly, I know the guy is a hard worker."
'Killer' feels signing Maluleka is a good strategy for Sundowns to offload the workload from the still-strong but ageing Hlompho Kekana, who recently extended his stay by four years.
"I think the reason they brought him is because they can see Hlompho Kekana soon will have to rest and take it easy," Mphela adds.
"In that position you need someone who can play a similar role as Hlompho does. Also, competing in Africa they needed someone as cover.
"So I don't see George Maluleka suffering at Sundowns. He works very hard so I think he's going to fit in well."
Lebese is currently playing for Colorado Springs Switchbacks in America's USL Championship, which is the league below the MLS.
