Mashego on Maluleka's stuttering career

Former Mamelodi Sundowns player Katlego Mashego gives his opinion on the stuttering career of midfielder George Maluleka since his switch from Kaizer Chiefs to Chloorkop.

Mashego advised that players should take careful consideration before moving for greener pastures.

In 2020 Maluleka made a switch midway through the season from Kaizer Chiefs to join title rivals Sundowns.

The midfielder then made just 12 appearances for Sundowns during the 2020/21 season. While in the current campaign Maluleka is yet to feature for the Brazilians, after failing to feature in the MTN8 final triumph.

"These big clubs sign quality players so we should not kill them for that just because they can afford to," Mashego said.

"But also, for a player, they need to go to clubs where they know you still need to develop. At which stage of their career they are at. They must look at the pros and cons because when you go to a big club like Mamelodi Sundowns you are expected to get there and hit the ground running.

"So if you go there and you still need to up your game and you still need to improve, then that's the wrong place for you.

"As for him, [George maluleka] there's no doubt he's a good player he showed that at Chiefs but the level is just not the same you know. The stats and the facts say that.

"He went there and he is not playing, but at Chiefs he was a regular, he was a big player. A player of George's calibre needs to be playing.

"At Sundowns you are going there to compete with other good players that were signed at other teams. Because some players go there just to bask in the glory of the club. You need to play and you need to contribute as well."
