Kaizer Chiefs have decided to remove one of their prominent strikers from the squad eligible for the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup.
Leonardo Castro appears set for an imminent departure after Chiefs decided to remove his name from the list of players available for the pre-season spectacle.
Despite being their third-most voted for player on the roster, with over 39 000 votes to his name, the Colombian is set to miss out on next Saturday’s sold-out Soweto Derby.
As was the case with Ryan Moon, who also left Naturena after initially having tallied up nearly 10 000 votes, those who selected Castro will now be allowed to re-allocate their votes.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star’s exclusion has since opened the door for new signing Lazarous Kambole, who would otherwise be on the bench.
Amakhosi have yet to make any official pronouncements on the 30-year-old’s future, though reports have long since suggested he is on his way out.
Chiefs also need room in their foreign quota, making Castro’s departure the logical step after the arrival of Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic, while Teenage Hadebe recently made way for Ghanaian midfielder James Kotei.
Kick-off of the much-anticipated clash is scheduled for 15h00.
